Clearing The Ground At The Freemen's Copse
October 15, 2016
A section of the Freemen's Copse - facing the park has been cleared Saturday morning - 15th October, by several Freemen Of Hale and the Lord Mayor, in preparation for the planting of around 200 daffodil bulbs, along with several Hebe Shrubs to form an evergreen border hedge. Hopefully this will be expanded upon with more bulbs to give a blaze of colour visible from the park at a distance,,, poppies will also be sown for next year...
As you can see, the brambles were several feet high and a fairly large area has been cleared. The Freemen's Copse was planted by the late Arnold Cox in memory of William Hitchmough, former Lord Mayor of Hale 1967-1974.
The Freemens Copse, is located in one corner of the old Cricket Pitch,,, and contains 5 Beech Tree's of around 35 to 40 years of age.
